Canaan Woods Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Canaan Woods: 28 click vinyl products, a consistent 20 mil wear layer, and its relationship with Baronwood.
Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 28 Canaan Woods products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.
The range side by side
The consistency is the selling point
Most brands we carry span a wide quality range, which means the brand name tells you little and you have to read the collection. Canaan Woods does not work that way. Every sheet in the range is 20 mil, and 27 of 28 carry the same 30-year guarantee.
That matters practically: you can choose a Canaan Woods floor on colour alone without accidentally landing on a thin entry-level product. With a range like Shaw or Goodfellow, choosing on colour alone is how people end up with 12 mil in a hallway.
Its relationship with Baronwood
Baronwood Plus is made by Canaan Woods and sits in both ranges. If you have been looking at Baronwood, the Plus line is the 6.5 mm, 20 mil product, and our Baronwood review covers how the three Baronwood lines compare.
Worth knowing so you do not spend an afternoon comparing two products that are the same floor.
What to check before you buy
6.5 mm or 8 mm. Both are 20 mil on top, so the difference is how solid the floor feels and how well it bridges an uneven subfloor. The 8 mm is more forgiving.
Whether a pad is attached, which affects what underlay you need and what a condo board will accept.
Floor height at doorways, especially with the 8 mm plus underlay.
What it costs installed
Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Engineered that only clicks and floats is from $3.20. Taking up your old floor is included, the floor itself is priced on top, and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page. Frequently asked questions
Is Canaan Woods the same as Baronwood?
Canaan Woods makes Baronwood Plus, so that particular line appears in both ranges. The other Baronwood lines are separate. Our Baronwood review compares all three if you are choosing between them.
What wear layer does Canaan Woods use?
20 mil across the entire range, which is unusual – most brands mix 12 mil entry lines with 20 mil better ones. It means you can choose on colour without accidentally picking a thin product.
Is Canaan Woods waterproof?
It is click vinyl, which is built for wet areas, and the sheets describe it as waterproof. That refers to the plank – water that gets underneath a floating floor still has to be dried out.
What is the difference between the 6.5 mm and 8 mm?
Both have the same 20 mil wear layer, so surface durability is identical. The 8 mm feels more solid underfoot and bridges minor subfloor imperfections better. The 6.5 mm adds less height at doorways.
What does the 30-year guarantee cover?
Manufacturing defects – delamination, finish failure and similar. It does not cover wear from normal use, water damage from a leak, or the installation. Our installation carries its own two-year warranty.
