Staircase Renovation in Toronto & GTA
22FLOORING renovates staircases from top to bottom in homes across Toronto and the GTA: new hardwood treads and risers over carpeted or worn steps, new newel posts, new spindles in wood, iron or glass, new handrails, and a refinish that ties the whole flight to your floors. Recapping a flight is usually about $7,000, and the in-home measure costs nothing.
We are a local installation company based in Woodbridge, rated 5.0 out of 5 across 32 Google reviews, and staircases are the job our customers talk about most, because a staircase changes the look of the whole house.
What we change on a staircase
Treads and risers. The steps themselves. We cap the existing structure with new hardwood treads and risers, so carpeted or builder-grade stairs become solid wood without tearing out the staircase underneath. Treads are matched to your flooring in species, stain and sheen.
Newel posts. The thick posts at the bottom, top and turns of the railing. Swapping dated posts for square, tapered or box-style newels changes the character of a staircase more than any other single part.
Spindles. Also called balusters, the uprights between handrail and step. We replace wood spindles with new wood, wrought iron or glass panels, and we can do this on its own without touching the steps.
Handrails. New rail profiles, wall-mounted rails, and continuous rails around landings, finished to match the treads or stained as a contrast.
Nosings, stringers and landings. The pieces that make a staircase read as one finished object rather than a set of parts.
What a staircase renovation costs
Recapping a full flight is usually about $7,000, and that figure covers new treads, risers and railings. The number of steps, landings, the shape of the stair (straight, L-shaped or curved) and the finish you choose move it up or down, and we confirm the price in writing after the free measure.
Smaller jobs are quoted on their own: swapping spindles for iron or glass while keeping the steps, replacing a handrail, or refinishing treads that are structurally fine but tired. Send us photos and the number of flights and we will tell you what the job involves before anyone comes out.
Every quote is a fixed price for the work described. There is no hourly billing and nothing added on the day.

What people are saying?
Frequently asked questions
How much does a staircase renovation cost in Toronto?
Recapping a full flight is usually about $7,000, covering new treads, risers and railings. Spindle-only or handrail-only jobs and refinishing are quoted separately after a free measure, and every quote is a fixed written price.
Can you change just the spindles and keep my steps?
Yes. Swapping wood spindles for wrought iron or glass panels, or replacing a handrail, can be done on its own without touching the treads. It is the quickest way to modernise a staircase that is structurally sound.
What is the difference between recapping and replacing a staircase?
Recapping covers the existing steps with new hardwood treads and risers, keeping the structure underneath. Replacing means removing the staircase itself, which is a much larger job and rarely necessary in a house whose stairs are solid.
Can you match my stairs to my floors?
Yes. We match new treads to your new or existing flooring in species, stain and sheen, so the stairs and the rooms around them finish as one look.
Do you renovate staircases outside Toronto?
Yes. We work across the GTA, including Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and Richmond Hill, and travel as far as Bowmanville, Wasaga Beach and London.

Most of our work now comes from referrals and repeat clients, which is the only review that really counts.
You get one point of contact from your first quote to the day we clean up and hand the room back to you.
We take the time on subfloor preparation and fastening that makes that silence possible, because noise is the first sign of a rushed installation.
