Your own flooring
Material bought elsewhere is fine by us, provided we approve it before installation day. Thin or badly made product tends to give up within a year or two, and the finished floor carries our name, so send the product details across and we will tell you plainly whether laying it makes sense.

Our house has two flights of stairs. How does that get priced?
Remodelling is quoted by the flight, generally around $7,000 each, and that covers treads, risers and railings. A good number of houses here have a main flight plus a set running down to the basement, and handling both together means one stain batch and one visit.
Can a single floor run across the whole main level?
That is what most of the larger detached houses in this area want, and it usually reads better. When we come out to quote, we check how level the subfloor is, because one long uninterrupted run will show dips that a room-by-room layout would hide. Engineered hardwood that clicks and floats goes down at $3.20 a square foot; glued and nailed engineered is $4.90.
Is vinyl the sensible choice for a basement in Oak Ridges or Jefferson?
Below grade we lean towards waterproof SPC or luxury vinyl ahead of hardwood. It can float at $3.20 a square foot, or be glued directly to the slab at $5.50 a square foot with the adhesive included, which is the steadier choice on a slab that sees any moisture.
We are in an older Mill Pond house with hardwood already down. What are the options?
Usually three: keep it and blend new material at the doorways, redo the main level in one go, or lift the boards and start again where they have cupped. When we come out to quote, we look at thickness, species and how much life the finish has left, then give you the honest version.
