Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is built in layers: a photographic wood or stone design sealed under a clear, hard wear layer, on top of a high-density fibreboard core. The planks click together and float over an underlay, with no nails or glue, which makes laminate one of the quickest and most budget-friendly floors to install. It suits busy homes, rentals and condos where you want a wood look that stands up to daily wear.

What we carry. Our catalogue has 681 laminate floors from 25 brands, including Toucan, Beaulieu, Fuzion, Goodfellow, Next Floor, NAF Floors@Work and Inhaus. Most planks are 12 mm thick, with thinner 8 mm options, and many come with an underlay already attached so there is nothing extra to buy.

AC rating. Laminate is graded for wear with an AC rating. Most of our laminate is AC4, which handles busy households, pets and hallways. Over 100 products are AC5, and a smaller group reaches AC6 for the heaviest traffic. AC3 floors are fine for bedrooms and other quieter rooms.

Water resistance. Standard laminate does not like standing water, so check the rating before choosing a floor for a kitchen, entry or basement. Many of our laminates are rated to resist surface water for a set time, from 24 up to 120 hours depending on the product, and some lines are sold as waterproof. Spills should still be wiped up promptly.

Installation. Laminate floats, so the subfloor has to be flat and dry, and the floor needs a small expansion gap around the room, hidden under baseboards or quarter round. Many products are rated for all levels of the home, and some can go over radiant heat. We check your subfloor and the product's ratings before quoting.
