Baronwood Flooring Review (2026)
An installer's assessment of Baronwood vinyl flooring based on the manufacturer's spec sheets: the 5mm, 6.5mm and Baronwood Plus lines, who each suits, and what it costs installed in Toronto and the GTA.

Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 34 Baronwood products on our site as of September 2026: 14 colours in the 5mm line (model numbers N01 to N18), 12 in the 6.5mm line (U1 to U12) and 8 in Baronwood Plus. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.
The three Baronwood lines side by side
Who the 5mm line suits
The 5mm line is the entry point. A 12 mil wear layer suits normal household traffic: bedrooms, a home office, a rental unit, a basement rec room. For a busy kitchen, or a front hall with a large dog and grit coming in from outside, we would steer you to the 20 mil wear layer on the 6.5mm line.
The attached 1.5 mm EVA pad means you do not buy or lay a separate underlay. The core is 3.5 mm, which is slim. A slim plank follows the subfloor closely, so the subfloor has to be flat. It also keeps floor height down, which helps under existing doors.
Each box covers 33.70 square feet. For 500 square feet plus 10 percent for cuts, that is 17 boxes. To see the range, start with N01 or N10.

Who the 6.5mm line suits
The 6.5mm line is the one we would put on the main floor of a busy house. The wear layer is 20 mil, the usual thickness for commercial-grade vinyl, and the core is 5 mm against 3.5 mm. A thicker core is stiffer, so the joints have more support. The residential warranty is the same 30 years as the 5mm line, so you are paying for the thicker wear layer and core, not a longer warranty.
The 10-year light commercial warranty means a small office or shop is within what the manufacturer covers. A box covers 24.10 square feet, so the same 500 square feet plus 10 percent is 23 boxes. Two to look at: U5 and U12.
Baronwood Plus by Canaan Woods matches the 6.5mm line on thickness and wear layer and adds a 5G lock, an antique wood texture and a UV coating. Most Plus planks are 48 inches long, such as U 15. U 03 is 60 inches, which gives fewer end joints in a long room. The Plus sheets do not state the core type or the underpad, so ask us to confirm both before you order.

What to check before you buy
- Subfloor flatness: a rigid core is waterproof, but it does not level a floor. Humps and dips put stress on the click joints and can show up later as gaps or a hollow sound. Check with a long straightedge and plan for patching or grinding where needed.
- Transitions and door clearance: a floating floor needs an expansion gap at every wall and a transition strip where it meets other flooring. Check that doors will clear the new height.
- Matching box lots: order the whole job at once, with 5 to 10 percent extra for cuts, and check that the boxes carry the same lot number. Shade can vary between production runs.
- Moisture: test a concrete slab before installation. The plank is waterproof, but moisture trapped under it does not dry out on its own.
What it costs installed
All three Baronwood lines are floating click floors, so they are installed by 22FLOORING from $3.20 per square foot. Taking up your old floor is included and the floor itself is priced on top. Subfloor repair, stairs and transitions are quoted per job, and quotes are free. For how we install it, see our page on vinyl flooring installation in Toronto. Frequently asked questions
Is Baronwood flooring waterproof?
Yes, according to the spec sheets. The 5mm and 6.5mm lines list a 100% waterproof rigid core, and the Baronwood Plus sheets list the product as waterproof. That describes the plank. Water that gets under a floating floor still has to be dried out.
Can Baronwood go in a basement?
Yes. Test the slab for moisture first, fix any active leak, and make sure the slab is flat. For a basement that sees heavy use, choose the 6.5mm line with the 20 mil wear layer.
Does Baronwood need underlay?
The 5mm and 6.5mm lines do not need a separate underlay. The 5mm line has a 1.5 mm EVA pad attached and the 6.5mm line has a 1.5 mm IXPE pad attached. The Baronwood Plus sheets do not mention a pad, so confirm with us before ordering.
How thick is the Baronwood wear layer?
12 mil on the 5mm line, and 20 mil on the 6.5mm line and on Baronwood Plus. 12 mil suits normal household traffic. 20 mil is the usual commercial-grade thickness and the better choice for kitchens, hallways and pets.
Is Baronwood good for condos?
It can be. The attached pad on the 5mm and 6.5mm lines helps with footstep noise. The spec sheets do not list a sound rating, and your building’s sound rules decide what is allowed. Some buildings require a specific acoustic underlay. Get the requirement in writing from your condo board or property manager and send it to us before you order.
