Purelux Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Purelux: 101 products, 20 and 22 mil wear layers, white oak, and what they cost installed in Toronto.

Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 101 Purelux products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.
The range side by side
No thin grade is the point
Most brands we carry run a 12 mil entry line beneath their 20 mil products, which is where people get caught – they choose on colour, land on the cheap grade, and find a worn hallway in four years.
Purelux does not appear to sell one. Every sheet we hold is 20 or 22 mil. That removes the most common buying mistake in vinyl, and it means you can choose on appearance without checking the small print. For a rental or a busy family house, that consistency is worth more than a headline feature.
Aluminium oxide, and what it actually does
Twenty-seven sheets list UV lacquer with aluminium oxide. Aluminium oxide is a ceramic particle suspended in the finish, and it is genuinely one of the hardest surface treatments available on a floor.
It resists abrasion – grit, sand, the things walked in on shoes. It does not stop dents from dropped objects, and it does not make the floor scratch-proof against a dog’s claws or a dragged chair. Felt pads still do more work than any coating.
What to check before you buy
Floating or the GlueDown series. Glue-down costs $2.30 per square foot more to install.
Subfloor flatness, as with any floating vinyl.
Whether a pad is attached, which decides your underlay and what a condo board will accept.
What it costs installed
Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Taking up your old floor is included, the floor itself is priced on top, and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page. Frequently asked questions
Does Purelux sell a cheaper thin option?
Not that we hold. Every Purelux sheet on our site is 20 or 22 mil, with no 12 mil entry grade. That is unusual and it removes the most common vinyl buying mistake – accidentally choosing a thin product on colour alone.
What is aluminium oxide finish?
Ceramic particles suspended in the surface lacquer, and one of the hardest floor finishes available. It resists abrasion from grit and sand very well. It does not prevent dents or deep scratches, and felt pads under furniture still matter.
Is Purelux waterproof?
The range is vinyl and built for wet areas. That describes the plank – water that gets under a floating floor still needs to be dried out.
What is the GlueDown Series?
A collection fixed with adhesive across the whole floor rather than floating. It is more stable underfoot and better in very large open areas or heavy commercial use, but it costs $5.50 per square foot to install against $3.20 for a floating floor, and it is far harder to lift later.
Can Purelux go in a condo?
Yes. Check your building’s sound rating requirement first, because that decides the underlay, and get it in writing from your property manager before ordering.
