Armstrong Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Armstrong Flooring: the American Charm and American Personality Pro collections, and what they cost installed in Toronto.
Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 42 Armstrong products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings. Armstrong in particular leaves wear layer and warranty terms unstated on many sheets, and we would rather tell you that than guess.
The range side by side
Elm is the unusual one
Five sheets are elm, which almost nobody stocks. It has a distinctive interlocking grain that produces strong figure, and it sits somewhere between oak and ash for hardness.
Its rarity is worth knowing for a practical reason rather than an aesthetic one: if a board is damaged in five years and the collection has been discontinued, matching elm is considerably harder than matching oak. Order enough to keep a spare box, particularly on an unusual species.
What the thin paperwork means
A residential warranty with no stated term is close to meaningless – you cannot claim against a duration nobody wrote down. That is not a reason to rule the brand out, but it does mean the specification cannot do the work of reassuring you.
Where a sheet is silent we ask the supplier before quoting. If we cannot get an answer we tell you that rather than filling the gap with something plausible. It is your money and your floor.
What to check before you buy
Ask for the missing specs – wear layer or veneer thickness – before ordering.
Order a spare box, especially on elm.
Confirm the installation method your quote assumes.
What it costs installed

Frequently asked questions
Is Armstrong flooring still a good brand?
Armstrong is a long-established American flooring name. What we can tell you about the 42 products we carry is limited, because many of the sheets leave wear layer, veneer thickness and warranty terms unstated. We ask the supplier before quoting rather than assuming.
What is elm flooring like?
Elm has a distinctive interlocking grain that gives strong figure, and it sits between oak and ash for hardness. It is rarely stocked, which matters practically – matching a damaged board years later is harder than with oak, so order a spare box.
What does the Armstrong warranty cover?
Many sheets list a residential warranty without stating a term, which limits how much weight it can carry. Where the term is not published we ask the supplier. Our installation carries its own two-year warranty regardless.
What is the difference between American Charm and American Personality Pro?
They are the two Armstrong collections we carry, at 30 and 12 products. The sheets do not consistently state what separates them technically, so we would compare the specific products you are choosing between rather than the collection names.
Why is there less detail here than on your other brand guides?
Because Armstrong publishes less. We build these guides from manufacturers’ specification sheets, and where a sheet leaves a field blank we say so instead of inventing a number that sounds right.
