An installer’s look at Simba Flooring: 58 products across vinyl and engineered hardwood, the Galaxy and Universe collections, and what they cost installed in Toronto.

Quick answer

Simba is a smaller range than the big brands we carry – 58 products at 22FLOORING – split between luxury vinyl and engineered hardwood. The vinyl runs 5 mm and 6 mm with a 0.5 mm or 0.3 mm wear layer, and the hardwood sheets use a two-part figure like 15/3.0 mm, meaning a 15 mm board with a 3 mm wood veneer. Most sheets list a UV lacquer finish and widths from 165 mm to 230 mm. We have no customer reviews of Simba to show you, so this is an installer’s assessment built from the specification sheets. Installed by 22FLOORING, floating vinyl is from $3.20 per square foot and engineered hardwood from $4.90 including glue and nails.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 58 Simba products on our site as of September 2026. Simba is a smaller range, so the sheets are less consistent than on the larger brands and several leave fields blank. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so.

The range side by side

CollectionsGalaxy, Universe, Galaxy Pressed UGroove, Planet and Venus, plus products listed under the Simba Flooring name directly
Vinyl thickness5 mm on 25 sheets and 6 mm on 4
Hardwood thicknessWritten as 15/3.0 mm and 15/1.2 mm – a 15 mm board with a 3 mm or 1.2 mm wood veneer on top
Wear layer0.5 mm on 17 vinyl sheets and 0.3 mm on 14
Widths180 mm and 230 mm are the common sizes, with 165 mm and 190 mm on some lines
FinishUV lacquer on 26 sheets

The veneer number is the one that matters

On the hardwood side, 15/3.0 and 15/1.2 look similar and are not. The second number is the wood veneer, and it decides whether the floor can ever be sanded and refinished. At 3 mm there is enough wood to sand at least once. At 1.2 mm there is not – treat it as a floor you will replace rather than refinish.

That is not a criticism of the thinner board. It is cheaper for a reason and it suits a rental or a room you expect to redo. But it is the difference between a twenty-year floor and a forty-year one, and the two sheets sit next to each other on the shelf.

What to check before you buy

Which half of the range you are in. Simba covers vinyl and hardwood, and the collection names – Galaxy, Universe, Planet – do not tell you which.

The blank fields. Several Simba sheets leave installation method or warranty unstated. We will read the specific sheet with you rather than assume, because the install method is a $2.30 per square foot question.

Width against the room. A 230 mm board is wide. It reads well in an open room and it shows an out-of-square wall in a narrow one.

What it costs installed

Floating vinyl is from $3.20 per square foot. Glue-down vinyl is from $5.50 including glue. Engineered hardwood nailed or glued is from $4.90 including glue and nails. Taking up your old floor is included, the floor itself is priced on top, and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 15/3.0 and 15/1.2 Simba flooring?

Both are 15 mm thick boards. The second number is the wood veneer on top: 3 mm or 1.2 mm. A 3 mm veneer can be sanded and refinished at least once; a 1.2 mm veneer cannot, so treat it as a floor you replace rather than refinish.

Is Simba vinyl waterproof?

The vinyl sheets are built for wet areas, but not every Simba sheet states it in the same words. Check the specific product page, and ask us if the sheet is silent – we would rather check than guess on your behalf.

How thick is Simba vinyl?

5 mm on most sheets and 6 mm on a few, with a 0.5 mm wear layer on the better lines and 0.3 mm on the entry ones. The 0.5 mm layer is the one to want in a hallway or a rental.

Can Simba hardwood be refinished?

Only the 3 mm veneer version, and then usually once. The 1.2 mm version does not have enough wood to sand. Ask us which one you are looking at before you count on refinishing it.

Is Simba a good budget option?

It is priced below the larger brands and the specifications are reasonable for that bracket. The catch is consistency: several sheets leave fields blank, so we read each one before quoting rather than assuming the range behaves the same way throughout.
