An installer’s look at Grandeur: 214 products, white oak engineered hardwood and vinyl, Välinge 5G click, and what they cost installed in Toronto.

Quick answer

Grandeur is a 214-product range at 22FLOORING, mostly engineered hardwood with vinyl alongside. White oak leads the species list on 62 sheets, with hickory and American oak behind it. Wear layers reach 0.7 mm (28 mil) on the vinyl, above the 20 mil most brands stop at, and installation splits between drop-lock click, glue-down and Välinge 5G click. We have no customer reviews of Grandeur to show you, so this is an installer’s assessment built from the specification sheets. Installed by 22FLOORING, engineered hardwood is from $4.90 per square foot including glue and nails, and floating floors from $3.20.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 214 Grandeur products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.

Välinge 5G is worth knowing by name

Eighteen sheets use Välinge 5G, a click system where the short end folds and locks down rather than being tapped together. On site it means fewer damaged board edges in a room full of cuts, and a tighter joint that is less likely to open up later as the floor moves seasonally.

It also means the floor floats, so installation is $3.20 per square foot rather than $4.90 for a nailed or glued board. Same product, different number, decided by which collection you pick.

White oak, and why it dominates

Sixty-two sheets are white oak, which is not an accident. White oak takes stain evenly, has a tighter grain than red oak, and is more dimensionally stable through a Toronto winter where humidity swings from 60% in August to 25% in January. It is the default for good reason.

Hickory, on 15 sheets, is the opposite choice: much harder, with dramatic colour variation board to board. People either love it or are startled by it once a whole floor is down. Ask to see several boards, not one sample.

What to check before you buy

Click or glue-down. Thirty sheets are glue-down, which is the more expensive installation.

Which wear layer, if you are looking at the vinyl. 28 mil is unusually good; 20 mil is the standard.

Species before colour. A hickory floor and a white oak floor in the same stain look quite different once laid.

What it costs installed

Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Engineered that only clicks and floats is from $3.20. The flooring is priced separately and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Välinge 5G click?

A click system where the short end of the plank folds down and locks rather than being tapped along. It gives a tighter joint, damages fewer board edges during installation, and the floor floats – which makes it $3.20 per square foot to install rather than $4.90.

Is Grandeur hardwood or vinyl?

Both. Most collections are engineered hardwood, with rigid vinyl in others. The collection names do not tell you which, so check the product page or ask us.

Why is white oak used so much?

It takes stain evenly, has a tighter grain than red oak and holds its shape better through Toronto’s humidity swings. Sixty-two of the Grandeur sheets are white oak, which reflects the wider market rather than anything unusual about this brand.

What is the difference between hickory and oak?

Hickory is considerably harder and has dramatic colour variation from board to board. Oak is calmer and more predictable. Neither is better – but hickory surprises people once a whole floor is laid, so ask to see several boards rather than one sample.

Can Grandeur be refinished?

The engineered collections can where the veneer allows it, usually once or twice, and the sheets do not always state the veneer thickness. Ask us about the specific collection before counting on it. Vinyl cannot be refinished at all.
