XL Flooring Review (2026)

An installer’s look at XL Flooring: 76 vinyl products, the Tight-Fit locking system, and what they cost installed in Toronto.

Quick answer

XL Flooring is a 76-product vinyl range at 22FLOORING, built around the Tight-Fit LVT system with a smaller glue-down collection alongside. Almost everything is 5 mm thick, and the wear layer splits between 20 mil on 41 sheets and 12 mil on 28. Widths run from 7 inch planks up to 12 inch tile formats. We have no customer reviews of XL Flooring to show you, so this is an installer’s assessment built from the specification sheets. Installed by 22FLOORING, Tight-Fit floating vinyl is from $3.20 per square foot and the glue-down collection from $5.50 including glue.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 76 XL Flooring products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.

What Tight-Fit actually is

Tight-Fit is XL’s locking system – a floating floor with a mechanical joint rather than glue. The practical appeal is the same as any floating floor: it goes down faster, it costs less to install, and it can be lifted later without destroying the boards.

The catch is the same too. A floating floor needs a flat subfloor. At 5 mm the plank is thin enough that it follows whatever is underneath, so a dip in the floor becomes a dip in your new floor, and a dip under a floating joint eventually becomes a click when you walk on it. Levelling comes first.

The 12 inch tiles

Twelve of the products are 12 inch tile format rather than planks. They read as stone rather than wood, which suits an entry, a laundry or a basement bathroom, and they cost far less to install than real ceramic or porcelain tile at $13.50 per square foot.

They are also warmer underfoot than stone and more forgiving of a slightly imperfect slab. What they are not is real tile, and at close range nobody is fooled.

What to check before you buy

20 mil or 12 mil. Thirty-seven per cent of this range is 12 mil, which is thin for a hallway.

Subfloor flatness, because 5 mm floating vinyl hides nothing.

Which collection – the glue-down products cost $2.30 per square foot more to install than Tight-Fit.

What it costs installed

Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Engineered that only clicks and floats is from $3.20. Taking up your old floor is included, the floor itself is priced on top, and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page. Frequently asked questions

What is Tight-Fit LVT?

XL Flooring’s mechanical locking system for floating vinyl planks. No glue, faster to fit, cheaper to install at $3.20 per square foot, and liftable later. It needs a flat subfloor, because a 5 mm plank follows whatever is underneath it.

Is XL Flooring waterproof?

The LVT range is vinyl and built for wet areas. As always that describes the plank – water that gets under a floating floor still has to be dried out.

How thick is XL Flooring?

5 mm across almost the whole range. What varies is the wear layer on top: 20 mil on 41 sheets and 12 mil on 28. At this thickness the subfloor matters more than usual, because a thin plank telegraphs anything uneven beneath it.

Can I use the 12 inch tiles in a bathroom?

Yes. They are vinyl in a tile format, so they are warmer than ceramic, more forgiving of an imperfect slab, and much cheaper to install than real tile at $13.50 per square foot. Up close they do not pass for stone.

Does XL Flooring need underlay?

Some products have a pad attached and some need one – the product page says which. In a condo the underlay has to meet your building’s sound rating, so get the requirement in writing before ordering.
