Golden Choice Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Golden Choice: engineered white oak, 12.3 mm water-resistant laminate and stone-core vinyl, and what they cost installed in Toronto.

Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 62 Golden Choice products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings. Golden Choice in particular leaves several fields blank, and we would rather tell you that than invent a number.
The range side by side
Water-resistant is not waterproof
The 12.3 mm laminate is described as water resistant. That is a real and useful property – it means a spill wiped up promptly will not swell the board the way ordinary laminate does. It is not the same as waterproof.
Water resistant handles a dropped glass. It does not handle a dishwasher hose letting go overnight. If you want a floor that survives standing water, the answer is vinyl, not laminate, whatever the box says.
The blank fields, and what we do about them
Several Golden Choice sheets leave the wear layer, warranty or installation method unstated. That is common with smaller brands and it is not a reason to avoid them, but it does mean we read each sheet individually before quoting rather than assuming the range behaves consistently.
If a sheet does not say, we ask the supplier or we tell you we do not know. We will not put a number on your quote that we cannot stand behind.
What to check before you buy
Which material. Hardwood, laminate and vinyl all sit under this name.
Whether the wear layer is stated on the specific product you are considering.
Water resistant versus waterproof, if the floor is going anywhere near a kitchen or a bathroom.
What it costs installed
Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Engineered that only clicks and floats is from $3.20. The flooring is priced separately and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page.

Frequently asked questions
Is Golden Choice laminate waterproof?
The 12.3 mm line is described as water resistant, which is not the same thing. It copes with a spill wiped up promptly; it does not cope with standing water. For a genuinely waterproof floor, choose vinyl.
What is I4F click?
A licensed click-locking system used across several brands. The floor floats without glue or nails, which makes it cheaper to install at $3.20 per square foot, and it can be lifted later without destroying the boards.
How thick is Golden Choice laminate?
12.3 mm, which is at the thick end of laminate and noticeably more solid underfoot than the 7 or 8 mm sold at the budget end. Check the height against your doors before ordering, because 12.3 mm plus underlay adds up.
Why do some Golden Choice sheets not list a wear layer?
Smaller manufacturers often publish less complete specifications than the large ones. We read each sheet individually and ask the supplier where something is missing. If we cannot find out, we tell you rather than guessing.
Is Golden Choice engineered or solid hardwood?
Engineered, in white oak, in 6.5 and 7.5 inch widths. Engineered handles Toronto humidity swings better than solid at those widths, and it can go over concrete where solid cannot.
