Vidar Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Vidar engineered hardwood: 133 products, white oak and ash, nailed or click, and what it costs installed in Toronto.

Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 133 Vidar products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings. Individual collections vary, and every product page shows its own numbers.

What the finish actually tells you
BONA UV lacquered appears on 77 of the sheets we hold, which is worth knowing because the finish is the part you walk on. A UV-cured lacquer is hardened under ultraviolet light at the factory rather than left to cure in air, so it arrives at its full hardness instead of reaching it weeks after installation.
The practical consequence is about repair rather than durability. A lacquered floor is refinished by sanding the whole surface, not by spot-treating one board, so a deep scratch in a hallway means refinishing the hallway. That is normal for the great majority of prefinished hardwood and it is not a fault of Vidar. It is simply the thing people are surprised by later.
Herringbone
Two of the collections are cut for herringbone: American Oak Herringbone and American Oak 5 Herringbone, sixteen products between them. That matters because a herringbone floor has to be bought as herringbone. You cannot lay a straight plank at an angle and get the same result, because the boards are cut to meet each other.
Herringbone and chevron are quoted per job rather than by the square foot, for the reasons set out on our herringbone and chevron page.
Who it suits
A house with a plywood subfloor. The tongue and groove collections are nailed with glue assist, which is the standard way to fix engineered hardwood over plywood and the method most of the Vidar range is designed for.
Anyone who wants a wide board. Most of the range sits at 7 or 7 1/2 inches. Wide boards read calmer in a large room, and engineered construction is what keeps a 7 1/2 inch board flat through a Toronto winter, where a solid board of the same width would cup. More on that in our engineered versus solid comparison.
A condo, but only with the Click 5 collection. The nailed collections need something to nail into. On a concrete slab the 8 mm click collection floats instead, which is also the cheaper install.
What to check before you buy
Which collection you are actually looking at. Vidar is not one product. A nailed 9/16 inch board and the 8 mm click board are different floors at different install prices, and they look similar in a photograph.
The subfloor. Nail down needs plywood. If you are on concrete, the answer is the click collection or a different product, and we will tell you which when we measure.
Width against the room. A 7 1/2 inch board in a narrow hallway shows every out-of-square wall. It is not a defect, it is geometry, and it is worth knowing before the boxes arrive.
What it costs installed
22FLOORING installs nailed Vidar from $4.90 per square foot, including glue and nails. The Click 5 collection floats and is from $3.20 per square foot. Taking up your old floor is included, the floor itself is priced on top, and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page. For how we install it, see our page on engineered hardwood installation in Toronto.

Three worth opening: Versailles Flooring Collection Yukon, European White Ash Collection Pebble and European White Ash 7 Collection Whistler.
Buying Vidar flooring in Toronto
We carry the full Vidar range and install it across Toronto and the GTA, from downtown condos on concrete to houses in Vaughan, Markham and Mississauga, and our installers travel as far as Wasaga Beach, Niagara Falls and Castleton. Herringbone is quoted per job, because the layout decides the labour; everything else is priced per square foot. Send your square footage for a free written quote, or book the free in-home measure and we will bring samples so you can see the boards in your own light before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Is Vidar flooring real wood?
Yes. Vidar is engineered hardwood, which means a real wood wear surface over a multi-layer core. The species listed across the range are American white oak, European white ash and European oak. It is not a printed surface and it is not vinyl.
Can Vidar go over concrete or in a condo?
Most of the range is nailed down with glue assist, which needs a plywood subfloor, so it is not the answer on a bare slab. The American Oak Click 5 collection is 8 mm and floats, which is what we would fit in a condo. Check your building’s sound rating requirement before you order, because that decides the underlay.
How thick is Vidar flooring?
Most collections are 9/16 inch, some are 3/4 inch, and the Click 5 collection is 8 mm. The sheets do not always state the wear layer separately from the total thickness, and where a sheet is silent we will not guess – ask us and we will check the specific product.
Can Vidar be refinished?
It depends on the veneer thickness of the collection, which is not stated on every sheet. As a rule an engineered floor can be sanded once or twice where the wear layer allows it, and the BONA UV lacquer is refinished by sanding the whole floor rather than patching one board. Ask us about the specific collection before you count on refinishing it.
Does Vidar make herringbone?
Yes, two collections: American Oak Herringbone and American Oak 5 Herringbone, sixteen products between them. Herringbone has to be bought as herringbone because the boards are cut to meet at an angle. We quote pattern floors per job rather than per square foot.
