Quick answer

Goodfellow is a Canadian flooring manufacturer and at 22FLOORING it is our most-searched brand: 169 products across luxury vinyl, laminate and engineered hardwood. The vinyl and laminate use click systems – 5G Drop Lock, Uniclic and Unifit – while some lines are glue-down, and the engineered hardwood is multi-ply or 3-ply tongue and groove. Wear layers run 0.5 mm (20 mil) on 62 sheets and 0.3 mm (12 mil) on 33. We have no customer reviews of Goodfellow to show you, so this is an installer’s assessment built from the specification sheets rather than a collection of reviews. Installed by 22FLOORING, floating floors are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood from $4.90 including glue and nails.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 169 Goodfellow products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings.

Thicknesses12 mm on 33 sheets, 5 mm on 10, 4.5 mm including a 1 mm attached EVA pad on 9, and 2 mm on the glue-down tiles
Wear layer0.5 mm / 20 mil on 62 sheets and 0.3 mm / 12 mil on 33. Some hardwood sheets list a 3 mm or 2 mm wood wear layer instead, which is a different measurement entirely
ConstructionEngineered wood, 3-ply tongue and groove, HDF engineered wood, and rigid vinyl depending on the line

Hardwood sizes9/16 inch by 7 3/8 inch, 3/4 inch by 5 inch, and 1/2 inch by 4 3/4 inch on the engineered collections

Read the wear layer carefully

Goodfellow spans vinyl and wood, and the phrase “wear layer” means two different things across the range. On a vinyl plank it is the clear film on top, measured in mils – 20 mil is good, 12 mil is thin for a hallway. On an engineered hardwood it is the actual wood veneer, measured in millimetres, and 2 mm or 3 mm is what decides whether the floor can ever be sanded.

A 20 mil vinyl and a 2 mm hardwood are not comparable, even though both sheets say wear layer. If you are choosing between a Goodfellow vinyl and a Goodfellow hardwood, that is the number people misread most often.

Embossed in register, and whether it matters

Forty-three of the sheets list embossed in register. It means the texture you feel is aligned with the printed grain you see, rather than a generic texture stamped over the top. Close up it is the main thing that separates a convincing vinyl or laminate from an obvious one.

It has no effect on durability. It is worth paying for in a front room where people stand and look at the floor, and worth nothing in a utility room.

What to check before you buy

Which material you are actually looking at. Goodfellow makes vinyl, laminate and hardwood, and the collection names do not tell you which.

Click or glue-down. Twenty-four of the sheets are glue-down, which is $2.30 per square foot more to install than a floating floor. It is decided by the sheet.

Whether a pad is attached. Some lines include a 1 mm EVA pad, which changes what underlay you need and what your condo board will accept.

What it costs installed

Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood from $4.90 including glue and nails. The flooring is priced separately and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Goodfellow flooring good quality?

The specifications are solid for the price bracket: 20 mil wear layers on most vinyl, embossed-in-register texture across much of the range, and recognised click systems. The entry lines drop to 12 mil, which is thin for a hallway. It is a broad range rather than a single quality level, so judge the collection, not the brand.

Is Goodfellow a Canadian company?

Yes, Goodfellow is a long-established Canadian flooring manufacturer and distributor. Where a product is actually made varies by line and the sheets do not always state it, so we will not claim otherwise.

What is 5G Drop Lock?

A click system where the short end of the plank drops into place rather than needing to be tapped along. It is quicker to fit and puts less stress on the board edge. Uniclic and Unifit are the other systems across the range and all three float without nails or glue.

Can Goodfellow vinyl go in a basement?

The rigid vinyl lines, yes, provided the slab is dry and flat. We test the slab for moisture while we measure. Laminate and engineered hardwood are a harder argument below grade and we will say so if your basement is not suitable.

Does Goodfellow need underlay?

Some lines have a 1 mm EVA pad attached, in which case no. The rest do, and in a condo the underlay has to meet whatever sound rating your building requires. Get that requirement in writing from your property manager before ordering.
