Next Floor Flooring Review (2026)
An installer’s look at Next Floor: 245 products including 28 mil wear layers and PVC-free plant-fibre cores, and what they cost installed in Toronto.
Quick answer
Where the numbers come from
Every figure below comes from the spec sheets of the 245 Next Floor products on our site as of September 2026. Where a sheet does not state something, we say so rather than fill the gap. We have not run our own wear tests and we do not give star ratings. Individual collections vary and every product page shows its own numbers.
The range side by side
28 mil is the number to notice
Most vinyl we carry tops out at 20 mil, which is already a good wear layer. Next Floor has 36 sheets at 28 mil. That extra film does not change how the floor looks or feels; it changes how long it keeps looking new in a hallway, an entry or a rental where the same three metres take every footstep in the house.
It is worth paying for in exactly those places and worth nothing in a spare bedroom. If a quote puts 28 mil through a whole house, you are buying wear layer you will never use.
The PVC-free cores
Sixteen sheets list a resin-fused plant fibre core described as 100% PVC-free. If indoor materials matter to you – a nursery, an allergy, or simply a preference – that is a genuine point of difference, and very few brands we carry offer it.
We will not make health claims the sheets do not make. What we can tell you is that these boards install the same way as the conventional ones and behave the same on site.
What to check before you buy
Adhesive or floating. 61 sheets are full spread adhesive, which is $5.50 per square foot to fit against $3.20 for a floating floor.
Which wear layer you are being quoted. 12, 20 and 28 mil all exist in this range and the price gap between them is real.
DropFit loose lay needs a very flat, clean subfloor. It is quick to fit and unforgiving of a floor nobody levelled.
What it costs installed
Floating laminate and click vinyl are from $3.20 per square foot, glue-down vinyl from $5.50 including glue, and engineered hardwood nailed or glued from $4.90 including glue and nails. Engineered that only clicks and floats is from $3.20. The flooring is priced separately and the full list is on our flooring installation cost page.

Frequently asked questions
What is the thickest Next Floor wear layer?
28 mil, on 36 of the sheets we hold, in UV-cured urethane. Most of the market stops at 20 mil. It is worth choosing in hallways, entries and rentals, and unnecessary in bedrooms.
Is Next Floor vinyl PVC-free?
Sixteen sheets list a waterproof, 100% PVC-free, resin-fused plant fibre core. The rest of the range is conventional vinyl. If PVC-free matters to you, check the specific product page or ask us and we will point you at those lines.
Can Next Floor go below grade?
The angle-angle click floating collections are rated for on, above or below grade, so basements are fine provided the slab is dry and flat. We test the concrete for moisture while we measure.
What is DropFit loose lay?
A vinyl plank held by its own weight and friction with adhesive only around the perimeter, rather than glued across the whole floor. It is quick to fit and easy to lift later, but it demands a very flat, clean subfloor – any dip shows.
What is StoneCast?
One of the larger Next Floor collections at 61 products, in stone and tile looks rather than wood grain. It is vinyl, so it is warmer underfoot than ceramic and far cheaper to install.
